If possible put them up right; thats what they''ve been engineered for. But can be done on their side. Note that this is not for the 12.8V LFP battery ranges. Only the Lithium HE batteries.
Moreover, always follow proper safety precautions when handling lithium batteries as they are highly volatile if mishandled or exposed to extreme temperatures. Knowing how to reset your Lithium Battery BMS can save you from costly replacement expenses of an otherwise functional device. Tips for Resetting a Lithium Battery BMS
The actual electrolyte in a Lithium battery is Lithium ions, within the organic solvent base. In a Lead acid battery (for comparison) the electrolyte is sulfuric acid, in a water base. Save Share Mounting the cells upside down
I was able to find some posts from victron/renogy that stated that lithium prism cells should NEVER be on their sides as it will cause electrolyte starvation. Then found vides that stated the exact opposite!
Lithium batteries are stored for too long, resulting in excessive capacity loss, internal passivation, and increased internal resistance. Solution: It can be solved by
The electrolyte in lithium batteries can shift or pool unevenly when the battery is tilted or laid down, which can decrease performance or cause safety risks. Always consult
A LiFePO4 lithium-ion battery uses iron phosphate as the cathode material, which is safe and poses no risks. Additionally, there is no requirement for electrolyte top
$begingroup$ Yes, it is dangerous to attempt to charge a deeply discharged Lithium battery. Most Lithium charger ICs measure each cell''s voltage when charging begins and if the voltage is below a minimum of 2.5V to 3.0V it attempts a charge at a very low current .
On my bike, the batteries are mounted under the downtube utilling the bottle mounts but with a shorter and wider configuration so the front suspension is not affected at all.
LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries can generally be mounted in various positions, including upright, sideways, or even upside down, without affecting their
Mounting a LiFePO4 battery on its side is a common question among users looking to optimize space in their setups, such as RVs, boats, or solar energy systems. While it is generally acceptable to mount these batteries horizontally, specific guidelines must be followed to ensure safety and performance. Understanding these factors will help you make

Basically imagine two loaves of bread shuffled together like cards. One up, one down, one up, one down, the only thing that matters, in the end, is the series made by the alternating oriented groups of pouches squished together making a loaf of bread batteries. The loaf of bread doesn''t have an up or down or sideways. The battery doesn''t care.

In a lithium battery design, the cells are all individually sealed and cannot leak. This means there is no restriction in the installation orientation of a lithium battery. It can be installed on its side, upside down, or standing up with no issues. Lithium, on average, is 55% lighter than SLA.
This gives you the flexibility to install the battery where it is best suited for your application. Here are further details regarding Battery Orientation from our User Manual: Lithium batteries can be placed upright or on their sides. Do not install batteries in a zero-clearance compartment, overheating may result.
Gel and lithium can go upside down. Whatever anyone or anything else says I wouldn't install that in any other position than upright. That's a pretty unequivocal message on that sticker. If necessary, send it back and get a battery the same as the original if that's the position it is fitted. They MUST be vented to release internal pressure.

My biggest fear would be accidentally connecting the wrong terminals. As very few cars of that age used gel batteries and yours is most likely a lead / acid battery putting it on its side or upside down will cause acid to leak out. Not a good idea as it corrodes or damages most things.
Only ever had an AGM battery in a BMW 7 series and IIRC they can definitely be mounted on their sides, but not upside down.
